OnePlus has officially revealed that its upcoming OnePlus 15R will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset, making it the first smartphone to debut with this new processor. The device is set to launch in India on December 17.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is the newest addition to Qualcomm’s flagship 8-series lineup, positioned right below the top-tier Elite model. It features Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU, which can reportedly reach clock speeds of up to 3.8GHz.
The chip also includes an upgraded Adreno GPU with a new “sliced architecture” designed to boost clock speeds and deliver smoother gaming and graphics performance. According to Qualcomm, the GPU offers an 11% improvement over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the overall platform promises a 36% jump in raw performance and up to 76% faster web-browsing responsiveness.
For AI capabilities, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 comes with an enhanced Hexagon NPU that delivers up to 46% better AI throughput than its predecessor. These improvements enable advanced on-device AI functions, including agent-style assistants with more natural, context-aware interactions and personalised suggestions.

OnePlus 15R: Design and Colour
OnePlus has confirmed that the 15R will be available in two colour options — Charcoal Black and Mint Breeze. The smartphone features a flat metal frame and carries the updated camera design seen on the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 13 series.
